250 GT California Spider for £6.4 million

250 GT California Spider for £6.4 million

Looking to buy your other half something really special for Christmas? Well, the estimate on this car when it reaches the auctioneer's block is between $8m and $10m, which in real money, means a top price of somewhere north of six million pounds.

Ladies and gentlemen, please be upstanding for the world's most famous Ferrari, and arguably one of Maranello's most beautiful designs. It's a 250 GT California Spider - here in LWB trim - being offered up for auction in Gooding's Scottsdale sale.

Because it's an early shout, there's not much info on this actual car, other than the estimated sale price, the fact it comes from the ‘Jack Castor' collection, and that it's been in single ownership since 1969.

What we do know, however, is that these things command prices like no other out there. Earlier this year, a 1958 LWB Cali Spider sold for a whopping $8.8m, so the chances of this topping a cool $10m are high.

What you get for that sum - aside from the gorgeous Scaglietti bodywork - is a 3.0-litre V12 with around 220bhp, a four-speed manual gearbox sending power to the rear wheels, and, um, a live rear axle.

Only 50 or so LWB Spiders were built, so you'd be buying into some very exclusive company, too.

The Scottsdale auction is set to take place between 16-17 January 2015. There's quite a lot of lovely stuff included, too, including an original E30 M3 Cabriolet and a Ferrari Dino. We'll bring you a highlights gallery in due course, but for now, it's time to start weighing up how much you can get by selling your loved ones.
